The Holy Day of the Pasch

This Day Was Made By The Lord; We Rejoice And Are Glad.

A blessed Easter to all the readers and followers of the Breviarium S.O.P. blog!!

There are a number of peculiarities in the Dominican Office for today's holy feast.  Among these are some interesting additions to the Office of Vespers for today, and the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  In addition to the shortened psalter that you also find in the Roman Breviary, the Dominican Breviary contains the following:

On Easter Sunday, the following reponsory is said immediately after the last psalm antiphon:

.  This day was made by the Lord; we rejoice and are glad.
Then follows the Mangificat antiphon, the Magnificat and the collect prayer.  After the Collect prayer, the following sequence is prayed on Easter Sunday, and the three (3) days that follow:

. Christus resurgens ex mortuis iam non moritur: mors illi ultra non dominabitur Quod enim vivit, vivit Deo.  Alleluia.

. Dicant nunc Iudaei, quomodo milites custodientes sepulchrum perdiderunt Regem ad lapidis positionem
Quare non servabant petram iustitiae?
Aut sepultum reddant, aut resurgentem adorent nobiscum dicentes Alleluia.
. Dicite in nationibus, alleluia. . Quia Dominus regnavit a ligno, alleluia.
Oratio
Deus, qui pro nobis Filium tuum Crucis patibulum subire voluisti, ut inimici a nobis expelleres potestatem: concede nobis famulis tuis; ut resurrectionis gratiam consequamur. Per eundem Christum Dominum nostrum...
Ant.  Regina, caeli, laetare, alleluia:
Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,
Resurrexit sicut dixit, alleluia.
Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.
.. Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genitrix, alleluia.
. Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi, alleluia.
Oratio
Dominus vobiscum. Benedicamus Domino, alleluia, alleluia.  . Deo gratias, alleluia, alleluia.
Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again, death no longer has dominion over him. * The life he lives, he lives to God, alleluia, alleluia.
. Let the Jews now explain how the soldiers who guarded the sepulcher lost the King, though the stone had been set in place.  Why had they not preserved the Rock of justice?  They ought to restore the body or else adore the risen One, saying with us, "The life he lives, he lives to God," alleluia, alleluia.
. Proclaim to the nations, alleluia. . That the Lord has reigned from the tree, alleluia.
Prayer
O God, who for our sake decreed that your son should suffer on the gibbet of the cross that he might deliver us from the power of the enemy, grant us, your servants, to attain to the grace of the resurrection.  Through our Lord...
Ant.  Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia, alleluia. For he whom you were worthy to bear, alleluia, has risen as he said, alleluia.  Pray for us to God, alleluia.
. Pray for us, holy mother of God, alleluia.  . That we may be made worth of the promises of Christ, alleluia.
Prayer
Lord, we beseech you to pour your grace into our hearts; that we to whom the incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection.  Through the same...
The Lord be with you.  Let us bless the Lord, alleluia, alleluia.  . Thanks be to God, alleluia, alleluia.

At Compline, as in the Roman Breviary, the antiphon for the Psalms is Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.  After the psalter is prayed, and the quadruple alleluia is said, there follows immediately the responsory:

.  This day was made by the Lord; we rejoice and are glad.
The antiphon for the Nunc dimittis is:
Alleluia.  The Lord has risen, alleluia; as he told you, alleluia, alleluia.
Then the following prayer is said:

Spiritum nobis, Domine, tuae caritatis infunde; ut, quos sacramentis paschalibus satiasti, tua facias pietate concords.  Per Dominum…in unitate eiusdem…
Pour out upon us, Lord, the spirit of your charity; that you may render at one in your love those whom you have refreshed with the Easter mysteries.  Through our Lord Jesus Christ your son...in the unit of the same...

From Wednesday on, the Prayer is the familiar "Visita, quaesumus, Domine, hatitationem..."(Visit this house, we beseech you...).

The rest of Compline follows, as in the Ordinary, with the alleluia added as noted.
